Tips and Tricks to be a faster simracer #14 – Force Feed Back

Set the correct Force Feed Back settings

Always make sure you have set the correct Force Feed Back (FFB) settings. If they are set too high you will be clipping. Clipping is when the FFB sends no detailed information on the wheel because it is hitting a maximum threshold. In some sims it is possible to enable a plugin that will visualize any clipping. If the FFB is set too little you will also have less feeling on what is happening wich will also result in problems controlling the car.

Search the internet for guides for your wheel and game.

If  you are able to finetune these settings you will get faster and more consistent.

Tips and Tricks to be a faster simracer #13 – Slow in, fast out

Slow in, fast out

Typically new racers or novice racers that get to a new track are eager to get that super fast lap in from the start.

Just remember faster is not always giving you a faster lap.

Especially while cornering. Slow in, fast out is the trick. Start your first laps with a lower corner turn in speed. And try to go out faster instead.

Most of the time you overdue while entering the corner, wich will result in missing apex or going wide on the exit because of all the understeer you experience.

For example, start with the porsche. That car will teach you from the start that entering the corner will have to be slower then any other car.

Tips and Tricks to be a faster simracer #12 – Commit the throttle

Commit to your throttle

What regulary happens is that people are not commited to the throttle. For example; when you enter a corner all the way down to apex and into applying more power again exiting the turn a lot of simracers are releasing the throttle slightly, coasting, and get back into more throttle again.

This teaches us that you are not using the right corner speed, applying too much throttle on the exit or using a wrong setup. If you apply throttle exiting a turn you keep it. If you do release and re-apply you may upset the cars behaviour. The body may want to roll and the dampers may rebound again.

So make sure you are committed with the throttle!

Tips and Tricks to be a faster simracer #11

Have you ever seen the A-TEAM? Who is driving the car? Yes it is B.A.

Go watch youtube and see how he drives a car. It is insane. The steering input B.A. gives while driving the car is too much. Even on the straights he is putting a lot corrections to the cars steering.

In simracing you will have to try to steer as less as possibly needed. So when exiting a corner, let the wheel move to its neutral position instead of putting force on the wheel so that it can not turn fast enough to its neutral position.

Also when cornering try to steer in one line instead of making corrections while turning. This will make the car more stable.

Tips and Tricks to be a faster simracer #10

To be consistent in the long run you need to focus on one goal at a time. So don’t do some hotlapping with a few liters fuel and after 10 minutes start on doing a long stint. Stick to one plan at a time. Actually before you start doing hotlaps make sure you can do at least 10 to 15 rounds in one row to get to learn your car and the pace you can do without making mistakes. Your laptimes should be within a few tenths of a second. After you reached your goal in consistency on the long run continue to the hotlapping. Most people also got different setups for the race as for the qualify practice.
